Being in a film

Do you ever think it would be cool if your life was part of a movie? It would be kind of funny if every time you wrote a letter you got a voice-over reading it aloud, and background music depicting how you felt at appropriate moments. I guess it would depend on what sort of movie you were in, and it would mean that everything would go down-hill in the middle. Especially if you were writing a letter, because the only movies I can think of where people write letters are the Jane-Austin'y  ones and everyone knows you can't have a good romance without loads of mis-understanding and communication problems that turn everyone against each other. Although that would probably be better than everyone getting eaten by a dinosaur or something. Yeah, I don't think being part of a movie would be fun after all. I've seen The Truman Show and Stranger Than Fiction. People in movies in movies seem to spend the whole time trying to get out of them. Which I guess is pretty sad because ultimately they end up staying in the movie, but there's a whole other level of movie out there that they don't even realise. That should be a metaphor or something. It's a bit like what I think may be the plot of one of the matrix films I haven't seen yet. Although even if they don't make it out side of the film as we're seeing it, at least they get to change the ending to a happier one. Besides, background music would get kind of annoying, and it's not like you can hear it if you're in the film anyway.

On a similar note I saw 'The Lost World' (The Conan Doyle version) recently. I think I like bad movies more than people are supposed to, because I thought it was really great. It has Dinosaurs, English people, Guys with hats and guns, it was fairly predictable but not entirely (I was waiting so long for this one guy to die, and he lived right through. He played the wife and children card. Although it actually turns out that none of the main characters died, BBC wussed out at the last minute) and I even got a fairly decent argument out of it with my sister about who was right in the end (The scientist guy or the hunter guy).
I picked up a copy of the book recently though, and it seemed really hard to read. It had a lot of long words and descriptions in it. Also I couldn't immediately tell what was going on when I opened it randomly about 3/4 through. Which is probably a really bad way to judge a book, but whatever. Apparently Jules Verne is a bit like that, so I might give up on trying to find a copy of 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' and try and watch the film instead.

That's about it from me tonight then, thanks for sticking around. Tune in next time for some more pointless ramblings (or maybe not, who can tell?), but until then I hope you have a wonderful day, and "in case I don't see you 'good afternoon, good evening and goodnight!'"

And I had a really great Birthday, thanks for asking. I got some cutlery so now
I don't have to eat all my food with a spoon.

Broken Headphones

It appears my headphones had an accident yesterday. No one know's when or how happened, but they've cracked. The bit that covers your right ear has cracked off of the bit that goes over your head, leaving it hanging by some wires. Seeming as I still don't have much to say, I thought I'd tell you about them.

I guess I'd seen it coming a few weeks ago, when I noticed them starting to crack where I leaned against the wall but I thought they'd last a lot longer, especially since I took care not to lean on them anymore. I guess I though they'd last as long as I needed, but as I went to put them on last night that was clearly not the case.
It's been maybe 2 years now, and those guys have seen me through a lot of things. Good days, bad days, A levels and my first year of Uni.
I remember finding out that the black plastic on the side of them was really very dark translucent purple. And the times they used to run out of battery right when you didn't want them too, and all the sound would fade away even though you kept turning the volume up. Although I guess there never was a time when I wanted my headphones to run out of battery, so that's kind of redundant. I guess that's pretty much it.
I could probably glue them if they still work, but they're really near the end of their life now.
I shall miss the freedom of being able to move around with headphones plugged into my laptop, or using my laptop from my bed.
A massive Thank You to my Grandparents, that was probably one of the best presents ever.

Adverts

Ok, first of all:

Because I made it on Davids blog, but he apparently took it out. Or made me take it out. I can't remember.
I don't really have that much to say, I have revision and I may be getting 'inside syndrome', but no one really wants to hear about that so I though I'd revert to my original blog plan. Talking about random stuff, in a place where people can choose not to listen, so I don't bug anyone.

Adverts. I have a TV in my London home. My TV shows adverts and yesterday it showed me this advert (the newest bbc). It's not the best advert ever, but I thought was a pretty good advert, especially because it made me think of this advert (the lovefilms ad) which was ok, but I always thought there was something missing from it. It felt like it could have been a lot better, although I couldn't say how.
Everyone has different opinions on what better than what, and what makes people want to buy stuff. I guess the whole advertising industry is about target audiences, and what they think is cool. (If this is the case, why did they make the cravendale ads so cool? Nobody the generation above me seems to like them that much, and as far as I' aware they're the people who buy the most milk.) Even so, there have got to be some adverts that are just rubbish.
I mean does anyone seriously like those shaky camera 'home movie' style toothpaste adverts? And life insurance adverts. These ones are probably waaaay outside my 'being in target audience' but I have seen a cool life insurance advert, so I know it's possible. Although me liking it probably means the people it was intended for don't as much. I'm just too cool.
Finding the links for and writing this post has caused me to change my mind slightly on adverts as a whole.  I wanted to compare the Halo reach advert with the  Gears of war 3 ad that kept showing all the time, but the one I found was extended and slightly better. I still think the Halo reach one is better, but thinking about stuff for too long makes all my thoughts tend slightly towards neutral. Does anyone like the Gears one better? And why?
Are they aimed at different people? Because the halo one at the time made me wish I liked FPS's a bit more, whereas the other really didn't.
Also because it's a bit late, I'm just going to conclude with the fact that beer adverts are usually cool.

I'm tired now, so I'm going to bed.

Also, Shock of all horrors the coffee machine has stopped working! Alas for now we are without coffee! Indeed it was a sore blow to us all. Well to a few of us anyway, but we shall try our best to plunder on without for as long as we may need. At least we still have a kettle.

Ninja Cat

One of the kittens (Mini Cid) ate meat for the first time yesterday (except for little bits of ham, but that doesn't really count) and has now apparently decided he is a ninja. Usually it's The black one who starts any fights, but this morning he has been running around like a loony attacking The black one, hiding in bags and jumping out at him, hiding on the bar on chairs, and jumping down on him, and hiding behind boxes of stuff. He even tried to do a bit of a solid snake at one point by wriggling into a shoe so that it ended up on his head and mostly covering him and walking around in it until he got close to The black kitten, at which point he jumped out of it and attacked him. It has been a good kitten filled morning.
All the kittens have promised homes now, which is a good thing but it's going to be a little less exciting without them around.
Although this means that if anyone wanted to see the remaining kittens they'd have to come round pretty soon.
I'm also thinking of trying to solve a detective story this holiday. I'm not going to actually solve it (because I'm rather bad at that) but I thought it would be fun to try. I was going to ask if anyone knew any less difficult ones, but I don't think that would change anything because I'm probably just going to go down to the Library and see what they have at the moment.
Well I have a driving lesson, so I'm going to have to leave off here, but you never know maybe I'll post again this month.
The Black One
Mini Cid
(Due to the lack of pictures of him,
I took this picture just now
which is why he's asleep.)

Have a nice Summer!

P.S The Black One doesn't have a home anymore, so if anyone wants a kitten....

Updates and speeches

This one is more of a small life-update really, although you never know maybe I'll get distracted and go off on a tangent or something.
So here are some things which have recently changed, or I deem cute/relevant:

  • Exams are over and its time for the summer.
  • I have two kittens (who really need homes soon. Which  is sad because they're uber cute.) and a cat.
  • I have TF2 on my computer, which is pretty sweet. It's free forever now, because valve really know what they're doing, so you can get it too if you want. Those guys at TF2 are indeed awesome. The game is constantly updating and they make a point to flesh out all the characters and even give them stories and backgrounds. (Except the Pyro, no one seems to know anything about him(/her).)
  • I have a real bed now (instead of a mattress). It's made of wood and everything. It also has a set of draws, shelves and mini cupboard underneath it.
I think that's pretty much everything, I don't have any work to do (yet. My results aren't in yet, so I don't have resits yet) although I do need to sort out my new bed/furniture/room-thing set and get it all organised up.
Also, in other news, I saw the kings speech today.
I didn't think I was going to like this film all that much. I'd had descriptions of it, and reliable sources tell me that it was (and I don't quote) 'a film I would happily sit through, but wouldn't choose to watch'.
Dudes (and dudettes), this film is actually pretty good.
I was told that it wasn't particularly funny, and didn't have any of those witty cool guys who laugh at people but I think that Speech therapist-y guy was pretty cool.
It's quite a hard film to describe. I liked both the characters and wanted them to win, I liked the music and I never wanted to yell at the TV. Surprisingly no-one seemed to make ridiculously pointless and stupid decisions that ruined everything. I guess that happens more in romances. Maybe I don't like romances then.
I don't know what genre film that was, so I can't tell you if you'd like it but I liked amazing grace, and this film is pretty similar (Just with less alcoholics.) I haven't seen that film in a long time either, but I think if you liked that, you'd like this.
As a conclusion, I would more than happily watch this film, although I probably wouldn't put it on of my own accord.
